Magnificent moment of now (2003)

Thinking thoughts through the thick togetherness
Of our bodies under quilted warmth,
Resting in the comfortable right-formed
Crook of my arm.

Your eyes look up at me
In naked wonder
And crinkle
With a sparkle-joy
Thrill to the base of my spine.

Is it possible two bodies
Could fit together so
Perfectly, such
As jigsaw scattered I
And perfectly formed you?

I think we fit sensibly and fully
In this magnificent moment of now.

But when clock tock time
Of soon and must
Knocks rudely on the door,
Or crawls through a crack
And across the floor,
Or flutters at the window...

You shall go
And I shall stay
(watching you through my window),
And think of when,
In a future now,
We will under a quilted softness
Together ourselves
For another most wonderful while of time.

  1. I just rediscovered an old chap-book of poetry from my earliest years of writing. This is a poem from that period. I'll post a few more of the better ones in the coming days and weeks. I hope you enjoy them.
